Ruskin Heights' Tornado Survivors'
Homecoming Planned
Stan Cramer will
be joining us for the Ruskin Heights' Tornado Survivors' homecoming on
May 19, 2007 at Ruskin High School. This will be a memorial
ceremony for those and their families who survived May 20, 1957 after
their homes and lives were ripped from the quiet neighborhood homes into
a landscape of devastation. Stan Cramer is a native of Kansas City. He grew up near 87th and Blue Ridge. Stan graduated from St. Catherine's grade school at 105th and Grandview Road, Rockhurst High School, and then Crieghton University in Omaha. Working thirty-five years for KCTV in various news and management positions until he retired in 2001. Stan is a nationally recognized, award winning consumer investigative reporter for his "Call For Action" work. Since retirement, Stan developed a program called "Stan's Seal of Excellence" to recognize businesses that provide outstanding customer service. The program is designed to help consumers find reputable companies, and to help good companies prosper. More information is available at www.stancramer.com . Stan is also works part time with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) disseminating information to the media about assistance programs in the areas where federal disasters are declared, including Mississippi and North Carolina after recent hurricanes. Stan's familiar with Ruskin Heights and the tornado of 1957. He was attending an awards program at his grade school and was sheltered in the basement when the storm hit. His father, an amateur photographer, had businesses in the area and took some of the only extensive color movies of the aftermath that he edited into a thirty minute documentary. After his father's death, Stan donated the original film to the Kansas City Public Library, and has now provided a copy to Ruskin Heights Homes Association. days until the Homecoming event.Last updated on June 11, 2007
